Torn

How do you know which way to go
When you reach the fork in the road
Carrying all your worries and fears
Struggling with such a heavy load

Your brain says it knows what’s right
To chose the safest way
Your heart says that it knows the best
Choose the route that’s full of play

You stand there wondering what to do
Feeling so lost and confused
What if you make the wrong decision
And you end up being used

Then you think of just giving up
And you start to dig a hole
But you begin to feel an ache inside
Deep down in your soul

You know there’s someone out there
Who loves you with all his heart
But when you turn to go with him
You’ll be tearing someone else’s heart apart

No matter what you decide
There’s no real way to win
‘Cause someone you care about very much
Will be hurting in the end.

Strength for the Strong One

Standing apart from everyone else
Quiet and stoic, as she watched them cry
And mourn the passing of their loved one,
Who was so very important in their lives.
But it was now time, to say goodbye.

Her soulful dark eyes, welled up momentarily with tears…
Yet she said not a word…not a whimper..not a sigh..
Knowing full well her soul has always shown within her eyes
She quickly banished it behind a shield to protect her soft nature
From the corner of her eye, she noticed her mother and sisters weeping,
Coming up beside them, she placed her arms around them all…

As they wept, yet her cheeks remained dry,
She tightened her grip slightly,
To lend them her support and strength
Raising her chin defiantly at her own feelings…
Her jaw clenched in a great effort
To keep her emotions in check to great lengths.

Having accepted it long ago,
To take control of a bad situation in the family
Everyone, automatically turning to her
In their times of need.
Yet they don’t always see the vulnerability,
Hiding behind her golden brown eyes,
Too occupied with their own pain.

Having walked her mother and sisters to a comfortable sofa,
Making sure they would be alright, so they may repose for the moment,
She backed away slowly, to leave the silent room of memories…
As she walked, for what seemed like hours, she entered an empty room,
Closed the door, and slowly slid down its cold surface.
A surreal feeling overcame her senses.

After an eternity of sitting on the lonely, cold floor
Silent tears began running down her smooth young face
She hugged her knees to her chest, as she wept alone
Knowing the future will hold many such moments; as it has just begun.
For a woman who’s always had to be strong for everyone else, but…..
Who will be strong for the strong one?

Barrier

This is another poem from the past.  I would say it is about 5 years old since it is from the pre-fiance era.  I wrote it after mutually ending things with someone who didn’t want the same things out of the relationship we had that I did.  It was hard but there are some things that are deal breakers… the things that were different in what we wanted were a few of those deal breakers.  111096674

Handle with Care

photo

She wears a fragile sticker
Where others cannot see
Her heart seems to shatter
Her soul weeps bitterly
The contents of her inner self
Need gentle love and care
And every part needs comforting
Of this please be aware
Hold her close remembering
A feather-touch is best
Careful not to hold too tight
Is all that she requests…

Light in the Woods

Now is the time to let these dark woods spread
And show the light – marauders: trees advance.
For forests are prevailing, as the larch,
The ash, the virile oak grow slow. This chance
Has twisted lichens usher in the Spring,
Which they’ve been waiting for, while roots were bared
To winter’s worst. Now is the time! And let it bring
New strength that will ensure the heart has dared
To lift ideas to permeate the mind,
Pruning wild thought: let past thoughts disperse.
Dawn wakes us early. Sunshine is inclined
To catch our eyes and hold it; there is worse
Than the light in these woods, for as defined:
Now is the time.
